Trans* activist and Emmy nominee Laverne Cox explores the life of transgender youth in an upcoming one-hour documentary series titled, “Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word.” It is set to premiere simultaneously on both MTV and Logo on Friday, October 17th, at 7:00pm.
Cox was quoted as saying, “For many of us, the ‘T’ in LGBT means more than transgender. It also means truth. The cast members in this documentary are fearlessly living their own truths, and in sharing their stories will send the message to other trans youth that it’s okay to be who you are.”
An element of MTV’s new “Look Different” campaign, aimed at fighting racial, gender and LGBT bias, The T Word explores race and gender identity by following the lives of seven young trans people, age 12 through 24, who hail from cities and towns all around the country.
These young individuals share a determination to live their lives authentically, overcoming epic challenges like coming out, bullying, and violence against transgender people.
Immediately following The T Word‘s debut, the T Word cast (including Cox) will appear in a live one-hour Trans Forum with MTV News’ SuChin Pak, which will air on Logo TV and will also stream on MTV.com.
As one of the cast in the highly acclaimed Netflix original series, “Orange Is the New Black,” Laverne Cox is elated that she can utilize her new-found fame to shine a light on the issues that transgendered people face everyday.
